SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING

Ink

Over 95% of the inks that we use at Focus Press are vegetable-based inks which are produced from soy and linseed oil. These inks are made from renewable sources and contain none of the mineral solvents that traditional printing inks contain.

In collaboration with our suppliers we have also developed our own unique ink delivery system which utilises recyclable plastic cartridges and has reduced our waste ink to <1%.

Alcohol

One of the first steps we took to reduce our impact on the environment was to eliminate alcohol from our printing processes. We were one of the first printers to cease using alcohol and we are proudly 100% alcohol-free today.

Chemical Reduction

We have reduced our use of toxic volatile solvents by over 90%, replacing them with citrus-based alternatives. As a result the air quality in our printing factories has improved considerably and we have reduced our supply chain greenhouse gas emissions via the production of these chemicals.

Computer-to-Plate technology

Focus Press introduced computer-to-plate (CTP) technology in 2000 and it has had a huge impact on our productivity and environmental performance. CTP eliminates the need for film and its associated chemistry and it improvea make-ready time, machine time and labour costs. Today our plates are all 100% CTP technology.
